Battle of the Atlantic
Command a German U-boat during the height of World War II’s Atlantic campaign. From the detailed interior of the submarine, players manage their crew, track enemy convoys, and launch carefully planned attacks across a vast and unpredictable ocean. An immersive journey into the tension, isolation, and danger of undersea warfare. Jason approached the score from the perspective of a German U-boat captain, giving the score a distinctly Germanic, operatic character. He drew on the harmonic language of composers such as Mozart and Wagner, using classical chord progressions and melodic turns rarely heard in contemporary game music. A choir reinforced the score’s dramatic, almost theatrical quality during major themes and pivotal moments. He also translated the physical world of submarine warfare into musical gestures: low, slowly evolving orchestral textures suggested the depths of the ocean, repeating woodwind chords evoked sonar pings, and rising and falling violin figures recalled waves moving against the hull. Slow chord progressions and gradually developing melodies reflected the patience, tension, and tactical nature of underwater combat.

“A cinematic war score and romantic opera. Simultaneously beautiful yet spine-chilling.”
