The Mark of Kri
Guided by his spirit companion Kuzo, Rau battles through enemy strongholds using brutal melee combat, stealth, and tactical awareness. Polynesian-inspired mythology, stylized animation, and cinematic action combine to deliver a distinctive adventure built around honor, destiny, and survival. Jason composed The Mark of Kri primarily around percussion and adaptive MIDI programming. Drawing on his background as a percussionist, he created custom banks of drum and instrumental samples, uploaded those sounds directly into the PlayStation 2 development system, and wrote MIDI sequences to trigger them in real time. The score was designed to respond almost instantly to gameplay. Percussive writing and irregular meters allowed the music to transition rapidly between exploration, stealth, and combat while remaining rhythmically coherent. The custom adaptive system tightly synchronized musical changes with the player’s actions and on-screen events.
“The dynamic music that changes to fit your situation really stands out.”
